U's pick up point on the road

Josh Coulson and Michael Wylde were surprise starters as Cambridge United picked up their third away point of the season at Stockport County.

The centre halves returned as Jez George again made changes to his side, following Monday's disappointing defeat at home to Dartford.

Rossi Jarvis was preferred ahead of Adriano Moke, whilst Liam Hughes was drafted in to replace the injured Harrison Dunk.

In a game of relatively few clear-cut chances it was the Hatters who took the lead on the half hour mark, Sean Newton converting from the penalty spot after James Jennings fouled Cameron Darkwah.

The pacy winger caused United problems all afternoon and it was no surprised that he was heavily involved in the host's goal.

Tom Elliott was unlucky not to level against his former club soon after as he burst down the right wing before firing straight at Ian Ormson from a narrow angle.

However, the U's did eventually draw level in the 37th minute as the tenacious Luke Berry disposessed a dithering Ormson in the Stockport goal.

The youngster, once again clad in a rugby-style headguard, nipped in to challenge the England C 'keeper before tapping into an empty net for his first goal of the campaign.

Into the second half, and Country striker Craig Hobson squandered the best chance to win the game when he fired wide from a Danny Whitehead cross.

Interruptions due to injuries to Jonathan Hedge, who became the latest recipient of the dreaded red head bandage, and Michael Wylde saw six minutes of added time indicated but the low-key affair was played out without any major fireworks.

The U's now face a tough trip to Luton Town on Tuesday night looking to pick up their first away win of the season and a first victory in four matches.
