Dunk salvages point for U's

Harrison Dunk’s equaliser ten minutes from time earned Cambridge United a point against Ebbsfleet.

Dunk pounced to slam the ball in after substitute John Gorman’s shot had been cleared off the line. Matt Godden had put the Fleet in front in the 71st minute with a composed finish following a mistake from Charlie Wassmer.

Godden had also hit the post for Liam Daish’s men, and missed a great chance to steal the points in stoppage time, shooting wide from eight yards.

FULL TIME: CAMBRIDGE UNITED 1-1 EBBSFLEET UNITED

21.39: That's full-time, a draw probably a fair result, though Godden's late chance should have won it for the visitors.

21.36: Into the four minutes of added time, and great work from Bellamy down the U's left fashions a chance for Godden, who somehow shoots wide from ten yards. Looked easier to score, he could have had a hat-trick tonight.

21.30: The players get a breather as Elliott is down receiving treatment. It's been all United for the last few minutes, but the ball won't quite fall to an amber shirt in the box.

21.23: GOAL CAMBRIDGE UNITED 1-1 EBBSFLEET UNITED: The U's level through HARRISON DUNK. A deep cross from Elliott finds Gorman racing in unmarked, and though his bouncing shot is cleared off the line Dunk is on hand to thrash in the rebound.

21.21: Nathan Blissett joining the action now, Hughes the man replaced.

21.19: YELLOW CARD X2: Dunk goes in the referee's book for a late tackle on Phipp, and seconds later Wassmer boots the ball away in frustration after fouling Marum and gets carded too. Pope gets a good punch on the free kick into the box, and United clear.

21.16: Luke Berry replaces Jarvis, the U's have 20 minutes to get back into this game.

21.14: GOAL CAMBRIDGE UNITED 0-1 EBBSFLEET UNITED. United behind and that's a mistake from Wassmer, who completely misses an interception allowing MATT GODDEN to run clear on goal, and he does the rest with a confident finish past the exposed Pope.

21.06: Here comes John Gorman for his United debut, the Wolves loanee replaces Andy Pugh.

21.02: Now it's Fleet's turn to go close, Godden's curler taking a slight touch off Roberts and clipping the outside of the post with Pope beaten. United breathe again, and clear the resulting corner.

21.00: And that's even closer. Shaw plays Elliott in down the left, and his low cross finds Hughes near the penalty spot, but his half volley is inches wide. In the aftermath Azeez joins the action in place of Payne.

20.56: Elliott nudged off the ball, that'll be a United free kick. In it goes from Dunk, it's a good delivery and Roberts meets it but glances his header just wide of the post. Close.

20.54: Howe's cross flick headed wide by Bellamy, that didn't have the power or direction to trouble Pope.

20.50: United with an immediate free kick on their left, Shaw fouled. Pugh whips it in and Coulson's header is straight at Edwards. The offside flag was up anyway.

20.49: The team's are back, United get us up and running again. Tonight's attendance, 1,737 (away 50).

HALF TIME: CAMBRIDGE UNITED 0-0 EBBSFLEET UNITED

20.32: Into the second minute and United have a corner, Robbo's deep cross headed behind. Shaw to take, it reaches Coulson but he lifts a shot over and that's half-time. Not much to write home about in terms of chances, but a few nice passages of play from the U's, which hopefully they'll be able to build on in the second half.

20.29: United have been on the back foot of late, but are coming forward down their left as the half draws to a close. Two minutes to be added.

20.21: Elder is a willing runner up front for Fleet, and wins a corner off the shins of Haynes-Brown. In it comes, gets a flick at the near post and Walsh thumps in a volley which Jarvis does well to block on the line near the post, I thought that was a certain goal.

20.11: United getting closer. First Elliott goes past his man near the byline and goes under challenge from that man Walsh. No penalty though. Moments later the U's break down their right with Dunk, who has switched sides with Pugh. His shot is blocked and rebound falls to Hughes, who sees an effort deflected wide of Edwards' post.

20.06: Best chance for the U's so far, a big hoik over the top from Haynes-Brown finds Elliott in the clear, but as he cuts back to put the ball onto his right foot, Barrett races in to block his shot. Big Tom should perhaps have taken that early on his left. Corner from Dunk is into the near post and headed up, then away at the second attempt, by the defence.

20.01: Godden registers Fleet's first shot on target, a deflected 20-yard shot which loops into the arms of Pope.

19.53: Quick passing down the U's left sees the ball reach Dunk, whose cross spins away for a corner off a defender's face. Shaw to take, but it's easily headed clear.

19.49: Roberts wins a cheap looking free kick from Bellamy wide on the right for the U's. Dunk whips it in, but his cross-cum-shot is over the players in the middle and over the bar, goal kick.

19.47: Good play from Dunk to wriggle away from Phipp, but his cross is easy for Edwards. Dunk has started on his natural left side tonight, with Andy Pugh on the right.

19.45: Here we go, Ebbsfleet get us underway attacking the Newmarket Road End.

Cambridge United: Pope, Roberts, Haynes-Brown, Coulson, Wassmer, Dunk, Pugh, Jarvis, Shaw, Hughes, Elliott. Subs: Anderson, McAuley, Berry, Blissett, Gorman.

Ebbsfleet United: Edwards, Walsh, Lorraine, Howe, Phipp, Barrett, Bellamy, Carew, Payne (Azeez 57), Godden, Elder. Subs: Blake, Enver-Marum, Menz, Azeez, Williams.

19.15: TEAM NEWS. Unsurprisingly the U's are unchanged after their impressive win at Grimsby on Saturday, Liam Hughes having shaken off a bout of flu to take his place up front with Tom Elliott.

For Fleet, there's one familiar face in the starting line-up in the form of Ashley Carew, who turned out for United last season. Another, Liam Enver-Marum, starts on the bench.

19.10: Good evening and welcome to the R Costings Abbey Stadium for tonight's match between Cambridge United and Ebbsfleet United. After two successive 1-0 wins, the U's will be looking to stretch their winning sequence to three matches with victory over Liam Daish's relegation battlers.
